Conferences & Meetings - American Pharmacists Association Academies Leadership Meeting (Washington D.C.)

American Pharmacists Association - Academies Leadership Meeting

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Academies Leadership Meeting in Washington D.C.  It was a great meeting and allowed me to truly understand APhA more.  APhA consists of three academies which includes:
  • APhA-Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management (APhA-APPM)
  • APhA-Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science (APhA-APRS)
  • APhA-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP)

The APhA-Academy of Student Pharmacists consists of a National Executive Committee whose members serve as the chairs of the five national standing committees.  The National Executive Committee members are:
  • APhA-ASP National President
  • APhA-ASP National President-elect
  • APhA-ASP National Member-at-large (2)
  • APhA-ASP Speaker of the House

Along with the chair, each standing committee also consists of a vice chair and 3 other student pharmacist leaders.  The five national standing committees includes:
  • Awards Standing Committee
  • Communications Standing Committee
  • Education Standing Committee
  • International Standing Committee (my committee)
  • Policy Standing Committee

I look forward to serving on the International Standing Committee as the National Project Coordinator.  As the National Project Coordinator, I will be working to promote the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF) Health Campaigns in pharmacy schools across the United States.  These health campaigns include:
  • Healthy Living Campaign
  • Tobacco Alert Campaign
  • Medicine Awareness Campaign
  • HIV/AIDS Campaign
  • Vampire Cup (blood drive)
  • Anti-Counterfeit Drugs Campaign

As the National Project Coordinator, I hope work within my committee and with the Communication and Education Standing Committees to promote and integrate these projects with the APhA-ASP patient care projects which include:
  • Operation Diabetes
  • Operation Immunization
  • Operation Heart
  • Generation Rx
